SPORTS CENTER – OFFICIAL HOME BASE FOR 2012-2013 H2 SAINT LOUIS VOLLEYBALL !

H2 Saint Louis is excited to announce its partnership with St. Louis Sports Center for the 2012-13 season!  “About one-third of the teams that comprise H2 Saint Louis will be practicing and nearly all of the 20+ teams will be conditioning at the St. Louis Sports Center this season,” stated Geoff Davis, director of H2 Saint Louis Volleyball. “This is a great opportunity for many of our teams to have one location where we practice and condition.” The H2 coaching staff has worked hard all summer in the development and implementation of our philosophy and this is right in step with that plan.

Whitney Beck Commits to Butler

H2 Saint Louis 16 Cardinal  6’ Outside commits to play volleyball at Butler University.  ” Whitney is a great kid, student, and athlete. She will excel at Butler. It is a smaller school and she should be able to go in as a freshman and be a high impact player.  A player like Whitney will be great for the A10 and Butler.  She is a work horse” said head coach Michael Loyd.

H2 Club Director Geoff Davis added “Whitney marks our 7th athlete in three years that has committed to play D1 volleyball, and the first in her class. We are extremely proud of her and her accomplishments. We look for her to make a big gain on our court next year as she continues to prepare for the next level”

Congratulations Whitney!

It’s wild!  Right after this year’s annual banquet, some of the H2 18 Cardinal girls drove to Florida for a little fun in the sun and picked up where they left off, winning a beach tournament in Panama City Florida!  Pictured here are six of the players, five which are seniors and will be heading off to play collegiate ball this upcoming season.  Congratulations ladies!

SISTERS CAPTURE EVP 16u SUMMER SPIKE Jr Pro AM !

Big Congrats for Sisters Sydney(15) & Megan(14) Skaggs (H2 Saint Louis 16 Crush) on winning their first ever Pro Am Beach Tournament Hosted by EVP tour last weekend!

“We won 7 games lost 1 set in pool play to finish first in our pool and got a bye to be able to play in the championship.  We won the final game which was 1 set to 21, 21-12.  Beat a total of 5 teams in the 16U age group.  What an incredible experience!

Though they have been playing together for some time indoors, this was their first time playing together on the beach.  This first place win has qualified them to go to the Southeast Championship in Panama City Beach Florida Sept. 1st and/or the National Championship at Delray Beach Florida Sept 22nd.

They play again in June and if they place 1st or 2nd, they will qualify to Hermosa Beach California the end of July!

Good Luck and thanks for the shoutout to H2!  We look forward to hearing more success stories from you this summer!

18 Cardinal brings home the bling!

Two weekends in a row, the Cardinals have brought home the bling!  They traveled to Greenville over Easter weekend and after taking 1st in pool play the Cardinals beat St Charles Xplosion and St Charles Stars in playoffs to get to the final match.  18 Cardinal took on Rockwood 18 White in two sets for the championship.   “We are so proud of these girls!  We have a player out with an injury and the girls have all stepped up to make the necessary adjustments to continue the success of this team!  What a fantastic group of athletes” says Coach McBride.   18 Cardinal will travel to the Show Me Qualifier in Kansas City this weekend to compete for a national bid.  Good luck ladies!

18 Cardinal takes 1st place!

Saturday 18 Cardinal played in Mehlville at the “After the Madness” tournament.  Dropping only one set in pool play, the Cardinals went the rest of the day undefeated.  The Cardinals beat the Powerhitters in 2 sets to win the championship.   Fantastic job ladies!

14 National Wins First Tournament of the Season

With only two days of practice and coming off their Illinois middle school season, the H2 14 National squad won its first tournament of the season this past weekend!  Great job ladies!  Go H2!

17 Cardinal Finishes First in Copper Bracket at MEQ

Head coach Rose Obunaga and coach Terrance Swinney lead the 17 Cardinal team to a strong performance in last weekends MEQ in  Indianapolis. After narrow defeats in game 1 and game 3 the Cardinal went on a 7-0 run to finish out the tournament on a high note!  “We are prepared to have some real success at regionals as the girls are playing very well. With all players being healthy and Sarah Parker on the court full time now that basketball season has concluded, we have a real shot at getting a bid.”

16 Cardinal Takes 4th at National Qualifier!

Courtesy of Maureen Redig, Champion Shot Sports Photography

H2 Saint Louis 16 Cardinal came to Denver determined to make a statement and win a National Qualifier. They were excited to have everyone back on the court after several team members were sidelined with injuries.  Going into the first game of pool play on Friday, they looked a little shaky while running a 6-2 and dropping the first game 19-25.  Head Coach Michael Loyd switched to a 5-1 for the next game, and the girls immediately found their groove, winning the match in 3 … they would go on to win the next two matches in two sets each.  The girls were excited to be 3-0, but they knew the next day was pivotal to move them on to Gold.

Day two was an early morning pool, but the girls were ready once again to represent St. Louis!  They took the next two matches in two against OK Charge and Arrowhead X Factor.  The next match against Aspire Black was the make it or break it match.  Lose and they would play a challenge match in the evening for 1st place, breaking a 3-way tie.  Win and they would advance to GOLD on Sunday and be top 16.  H2 was on their toes and won the first set 25-22. But Aspire fought hard and won the next set 18-25.  Coaches Loyd and Owens encouraged the girls before the 3rd set, to play clean and aggressive volleyball.  The girls were hungry and won the final set 15-12.   6-0 on the weekend!

The motto going into Sunday was 8, 10, 12 & 2, which were the game times to get to the championship game.  “Every girl on the team played their best volleyball, said Coach Loyd.  From blocks to hits, to passes to sets, everyone brought their A game!”   The first match(8) against Johnson National was intense, but H2 pulled out the win in 2 sets, 25-15 and 30-28.  The atmosphere and crowd were electric as other teams from St. Louis came to show their support for H2 in the semifinal match 2 (10) against the Colorado Jrs.    The Jrs. had height and were quick on their feet, and they took the first set, but not without a fight from H2 pushing it to 24-26.  Half way through the second set H2 was down 10-16.  But they were relentless and kept digging deep.   After a side out,  H2 went on a 9 point serving run led by OH Danielle Waedekin and had several huge blocks by MB Nzingha Clarke and RH Abby Fishbeck to take the lead. The 3rd set was a tremendous victory; after being down 6-12, they came back to win the set 15-13!  “Coach just kept telling us to control what we can on our side of the net, said libero Kameryn Bellinger, and we did!”  The girls were ecstatic!   Final 4!

Match 3(12) unfortunately ended the run for H2 as they lost to CVA Colorado (Crossroads Champions) in two sets, 14-25 and 20-25.   Match 4 (2) determined the 3rd place winner, and sadly, the girls couldn’t pull out the win and lost to the River City Jrs in two sets, 19-25 and 20-25.  However, in the end, their tremendous showing – top 4 out of 100+ teams, was nothing to be sad about at all.

“It was such a special weekend for these girls being that none of them had ever competed on such a huge stage,  said Coach Loyd.  Now we have our eyes set on Indy.”

H2 18 Cardinal takes first in gold!

This past Sunday, 18 Cardinal arrived at Game Time Sports in Chesterfield Valley with one mission.  To take home the gold.  After splitting with TESL 18 Black in the finals, the Cardinals took set 3 with a win 15-8 and accomplished their goal.  Fantastic job ladies!

H2 14 Black Wins Jaguar Classic

H2 14 Black finished the day undefeated in match play to secure their second win of the season in a row.  The girls adjusted to the level of play well and were able to keep the tempo of the matches in our control. Defense definitely wins championships and boy was there some D!  Great job girls, your hard work is showing and the smiles on your faces make everyday worth it!

A Perfect Day! H2 13 Cardinal Completes a 10 – 0 Run & Captures The REC-PLEX Classic!

With a powerful performance from the front court, and some great serving and defense, 13 Cardinal cruised to a 10- 0 finish and took home the hardware!  In front of a packed house, coach Gremminger explained that “we really only lost our footing once during the day, but the girls showed their toughness and battled back to complete the final set victory before heading into the playoff round where they really established their dominance over their opponents.”   Emma Edwards (14 cardinal) joined her 13 Cardinal sisters in the winning effort.  13 Cardinal now seeks to improve their 6th place ranking by adding a couple of additional practice days in the gym and playing in the March Along 15’s tournament next weekend at SIU-E.  Head Coach Geoff Davis said, “the girls are getting faster, smarter and more focused on the court, and that will account for our continued success the second 1/2 of the season.  There is only one team in the region capable of beating us when we play like we are capable of playing.  We have our sites set on finishing strong this year and are confident in our ability to do just that.”

16 Crush Wins The Mineral Area College Championship!

16 Crush, fresh off of a second place finish last weekend, turned up the heat again at Mineral Area College Invitational where they completed a 10-0 Run to take 1st in Gold and to complete its second Gold Championship in as many tries at Mineral Area.

Coach Deb Charleton & Crush took charge in the first match and never looked back.  Club Director Geoff Davis was on the bench with the squad this weekend and was thrilled at the energy on the court.  “These girls are a model of unity and effort. They have so much fun together, they show tremendous support of each other and they show a tremendous amount of poise on the court.  It’s clear that many of these young ladies could play volleyball well into college if they wish.” And it’s clear that all the parents have just as much fun supporting their champions!

Only once showing signs of trouble, they let one opponent get a 9 point lead, then showed the tremendous poise in coming back to not only win, but they let no other team even get close to them for the rest of the day.

“I hope to get the opportunity to spend more time with these girls during the rest of the season.  They are truly fun to watch and I look for continued great things out of this group.”

H2 14 Black Wins Dig and Dive Tourney 2/19

H2 14 Black finishes the day at 9-1 to secure their first big win of the season. The girls breezed their way through pool play going 5-1 and completing the playoff bracket at 4-0. It was truly a team effort and the girls were very receptive to changing their play throughout the day. You can see the girls hard work paying off and their confidence level rising with each tournament.

15 Cardinal Takes Second at Cupid Classic!

15 Cardinal overcomes adversity to finish second in the 12 team Xplosion Cupid Classic.  Facing illness and injuries to players heading into the tournament our young ladies banded together as one while playing their hearts out.  15 Cardinal finished second in pool play, losing to a boys entry.  However, after winning their first match in Gold Bracket play, they dispersed the same boys team in 2 sets to reach the final.  The Championship featured a tough 3 sets against St. Charles Xplosion with 15 Cardinal leaving everything on the court, where we lost in a close match 15-19, 19-12, 13-15.

15 Black Finishes Second in Gold!

After getting off to a slow start, 15 Black fought hard to finish 2nd in pool play, which placed them in the Gold Bracket.  Its first match opponent was Team Momentum 14 Navy, and they won with excellent play by everyone.  “Our girls would just not let a ball drop on our side of the net without every possible effort,” said coach Schroeder.  The next match placed 15 Black against St. Louis Heat 15s.  They took us to three well fought games, but we won out in the end.  With that win 15 Black was in the GOLD MATCH FINAL against South County Angels.  We put up a good fight, but finished second in the end.

H2 18 Cardinal Crowned 18 Open Division Champs at Memphis Metro Annual MLK tournament

For the second year in a row, H2 has won the open level division at the annual MLK tournament in Memphis Tennessee , hosted by Memphis Metro Volleyball Club. The girls went undefeated in pool play on Saturday, and only dropped one set during the day on Sunday to finish as 18 Open Division Champions. We are so excited about this group of girls and the opportunities that exist ahead of them for the season.

In two weeks, 18 Cardinal will head off to Omaha to play in the 18 Open Division of the Presidents Classic Tournament held at the Quest Center.

17 Cardinal Wins Bronze in Power League

17 Cardinal brought home the Bronze Bracket Championship  in Power League this weekend. The girls struggled with some plays on Saturday and found themselves in the Bronze bracket Sunday. They were more composed and played their best winning the medal on Sunday.

Congratulations!

Three Practices, One Tourney, One Title

After starting out a little rough in the morning, 16 Crush caught its stride to finish strong in pool play and in the semi’s. They played 16 Black Ice again, this time for the title. It was a very good game with some great plays by both teams. We had the size and power and Black Ice played great defense to stay in the match. Overall great day for 16 Crush playing and winning the 1st tourney of the season at MAC.  We can’t wait to see how these champions progress through out the year.

H2 13s on a nature hike doing the early morning hours.  The girls spent the weekend at Pere Marquette Lodge, where through a series of role playing, and 2 on 2 pairs interaction, they developed a cohesive team spirit and setting fourth their goals for the season!

They also had the pleasure of seeing some of the Moms in the Hit play (MY Parents are weird, but we love them anyway!)
