16 Crush just wrapped up a full and successful weekend of volleyball. On Saturday the team competed at the Lamborghini Athletic Centre in a 12 team 16U tournament. Crush came out 1st in their pool only losing one set. In the semi’s Crush played another 16 H2 team, Illinois West. It was a battle with both teams wearing the same black uniform! Crush went on to win in 2 sets, 19-11 and 20-18. The championship game pitted us against a very good Northwest Cat Attack team. Our girls battled every point but lost in three – 15-19, 19-14 and 10-15, taking 2nd place in the tourney.
On Sunday we played in a local tourney for us, the Bismarck 17’s Invitational Tournament. We were excited to see how our 16’s would handle the pressure of playing up. This team never fails to surprise its coach and fans!! Crush went undefeated in pool play winning all sets and easily winning the first round of the tourney beating Matrix VBC 19-9 and 19-7. The next round proved a little more difficult playing the strong defense team, Silva 17. Crush came out on top 19-17 and 19-12. That win put us in the Championship Game facing our toughest opponent during pool play, Perryville Block Party 17. H2 16 Crush won the 17’s Tournament beating Perryville 19-14, 16-19 and 15-7.
Overall for the day we had 111 team kills, 8 stuff blocks and 76 perfect serve receive passes. However, our successful weekend did come with one disappointment. Our right side hitter, DeShay Tate hurt her knee during HS open gym. On Monday she was diagnosed with a torn meniscus and had surgery on Tuesday. We will miss DeShay’s right side attack and block for the rest of this season. We pray for a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her in a Farmington jersey this fall!!
Crush travels to Chicago over Easter Weekend to play in the Windy City Qualifier.
