This weekend H2 15 Cardinal challenged each other and their opponents in a 16s tournament. Facing our opponents this weekend we were missing a key middle hitter/blocker due to an ankle injury sustained at practice this week. It was imperative that the team work together and put together a strong offense and defense.

The girls adjusted their strategy and came out of pool play undefeated winning all 6 sets and advancing to the gold bracket! Our semi-final appearance against Perryville Final Draft 16’s we took an easy set 1 with a 19-9 victory. Set two our serve receive and serving accuracy suffered a bit and we struggled to put together an offense to take the match. Forcing a third game the girls fell behind early 8-2 against Perryville. We rallied back but could not find the formula needed to win the match. The team lost the third set 11-15 placing us as 3rd in gold for the day.

This weekend was a great test for the team in many ways; learning to play teams in an age group above ours, coming together as a team and working through our strategy when missing a key player, minimizing unforced errors and learning to play our game regardless of what is happening on the other side of the court.

I wanted to say a special thank you to Riley Hercules (H2 15 Black) for joining us in this tournament and providing us assistance needed at the net! We appreciate you spending the day with us.

Great job ladies!
